The Vececrugo Cluster
Vecekrugas Dune is the highest place in the Curonian Spit, reaching a height of 67 metres. The climb up the dune offers a spectacular panorama of the sea and the Curonian Lagoon, Cape Bulvikis and the surrounding pine forests, and the Pervalka Lighthouse.
It will take some effort to reach the site: first you have to walk through the forest, then climb a path made of rubble, with sand in places. But once you've climbed, the views make up for it. You can also visit the site by bicycle. There is an observation deck at the top of the dune and a bench for resting.
Interesting place name, isn't it? The story goes that there used to be a tavern at the foot of the dune, which apparently gave the place its name: from the Curonian words “vece” - old and “kruogs” - tavern.
The highest dune in the Curonian Spit, its regular, green carpeted peak is reminiscent of Japan's Mount Fuji. The views are truly unique - worth a visit when visiting Neringa.
